Havertown

havertownLocated in Haverford Township, Delaware County Pa., nine miles west of Philadelphia, Havertown is home to many historical sites. Most notably, the Grange Estate, a mansion that entertained the Revolutionary War figures George Washington and General Lafayette. During the war of 1812, Nitre Hall Powder Mills in Havertown also played an integral part in providing over 800,000 pounds of gunpowder. Open to the public May through October, Nitre Hall is listed with the National Register of Historic Places.

With nearly 30 outdoor parks and playing fields, residents have no shortage of access to recreational facilities. Recent renovations to the Haverford Reserve have created the ultimate outdoor hiking experience for its residents. The reserve includes 5 miles of trails, wetlands and wildlife habitat, along with a state of the art environmental lab. The Haverford Reserve also offers families with children playing fields, a freedom playground and a dog park. The Haveford Township recently opened a community recreation center for Havertown and Haverford residents that offers classes for all ages, has a double gymnasium, fitness rooms and an environmental nature room. The $7.4 million facility is completely geothermal powered and LEED certified.

This pleasant and quiet town prides itself on community and family. The Haverford Music festival held annually in the Oakmont Business District of Havertown is an all-day, family event. Inspired by other music festivals like the Philadelphia Folk Festival, it has attracted a large following. In 2012, nearly 15,000 people enjoyed over 30 bands on three stages.
